Drywall Screws for Construction: Self-Tapping & Corrosion-Resistant

Choose the appropriate screw drive type, either Phillips or square, and length which is usually 1/8” longer than the drywall thickness. If using power drills with self-tapping screws, pre-drilling metal framing is often skipped. Starting from the pan, drywall screws need to be positioned alongside studs at 6 to 8-inch intervals with the center as the starting point to prevent buckling. Set the power drill clenched so further adjustment is not needed as over-driving can cause devastating damage to the drywall.
